Dr. Marilyn Tran, HBSc, ND
Hello! I’m Dr. Tran.
My goal is to add more healthful years to your life by creating a treatment plan that will improve your health and well-being. After all, our healthful years are also our most fruitful!
Often described as passionate, bright and forever learning, I am here to help you straighten out and optimize your health.
My First Memory of Stress
Growing up, I was always a straight-A student. Based on popular stereotypes, this is to be expected in an Asian household, but it meant I grew up with a lot of pressure. I distinctively recall my earliest memory of stress: I was in grade 4 and it was a crisp, Canadian, winter’s afternoon. I remember feeling cold and lousy because instead of enjoying my precious recess time playing with the other kids, I was stressed over a major project deadline, final exams for my Saturday Vietnamese classes, and a piano recital all happening within a period of a few days! Talk about having too much on my plate!
This sort of stress continued for the next decade of my life as I continued my life as a student, doing as I was told, meeting deadlines, and getting the top grades. Looking back, I realize that most of this pressure came from within — a need to prove myself, be perfect, and do what I thought was expected of me.
The Turning Point
Not much changed until I discovered and enrolled in a program for Naturopathic medicine. Of course, the program itself did not lend to much balance. It was rigorous and intense, and I worked the hardest I had ever worked in my life. Yet, it was during my studies that I was taught a whole new paradigm to health, one that was not only focused on disease and ill-health, but more importantly, on how to optimize health. I was also introduced to mind-body medicine, which acknowledges that our bodies and minds are not distinct from each other, but rather they function together as parts of an interconnected system.
I was awoken to the knowledge that if I continued down my path of stress and anxiety, somewhere down the line, my health and body would pay the price.
What’s Wrong With Western Society
Yet, that is the reality of modern life. Our culture is dominated and contaminated by stress. Who is stressed? Everybody.
The bigger concern is how little stress is addressed as a cause for disease in our conventional medical system. Thankfully, this is where naturopathic medicine fills the gap.
Health is much more than the absence of disease. It is the full and optimal functioning of the human being.
I firmly believe that our thoughts and emotions have an immense impact on health, yet they are so often ignored. Stress is often a consequence of our minds over-working, thinking, worrying, ruminating. In addition to providing our bodies with the proper fuel and building blocks to heal, it is also vital to consider our mental world.
Are we nourishing ourselves with the right thoughts and emotions that sustain and build us, or do our thoughts and emotions consume and tear us down?
What are the thoughts that run through your head? What emotions do you commonly express? Are you doing what makes you happy?
Work With Me
I am honored to be in a part of the profession that treats patients as whole individuals, and not just a diagnosis.
I love getting to know my patients through my private consultations. It is important for me to understand my patients’ unique health needs and uncover the root cause to their health problems, so that I can offer safe and effective solutions.
Highly trained as a primary care provider, I integrate my education in the sciences with a broad range of natural therapies in my practice. Naturopathic Medicine blends the best of modern medical science and traditional medicine to treat disease, prevent illness, and restore health.
If you are ready to take the necessary steps to improve your health, I will be delighted to help you introduce positive changes to your life. I look forward to working with you to help you manage daily stress, and restore balance to your everyday life.
