Beginner Steps to a Detox

Have you done a detox?

Everyone has heard of the term “detoxification”. Perhaps you’ve even done one yourself. Indeed, there are plenty of protocols that claim to help you reach a perfect state of health and vitality via a detox. But the catch is this: you can only drink water, or you can only eat x, y and z.

That would scare most people away.

But really, a detox doesn’t have to be so terrifying and restricted to only three items. Food is what sustains the body and it should be consumed. Of course, when I say this, I mean the real good kind that is fresh, wholesome and is what the body needs and craves.

What is a detox?

At the root of it, it is the elimination of “toxins” from the body. What are toxins? Quite simply, at the dietary level, they are the unnatural chemicals and fillers that are found in our foods that are devoid of any nutritional benefits to our bodies.

So essentially, what are you doing in a detoxification? You are taking out the trashy food, and replacing it with wholesome goodness.

Now, let’s get started

To begin, eliminate the junk. Yes, all of it – sugars, caffeine, baked goods, chips, soda, unhealthy fats, greasy, fried, anything processed, packaged, or sitting on shelves for months on end.

Get rid of it all!

Empty it from your fridge, your shelves, your secret stash under the bed or in your closet.

Remember, you don’t need this food! They are bad for you and are simply fillers disguised as “food”.

Instead, embrace real, whole foods, rich in vitamins and minerals, made with fresh ingredients. These are colourful, fragrant and actually give your body a boost of vital goodness.

Plan Ahead

In order to make this transition as smooth as possible, you’re going to need an action plan:

  • Make a list of foods that are healthy and whole that you actually enjoy.
  • Look for recipes.
  • Cook foods ahead of time so that when you are starving, you won’t be tempted to grab the dirty stuff – there is good food at home waiting for you.
  • Fruits and vegetables make great snacks in addition to nuts, dates, and rice crackers drizzled with apple or nut butters.
  • Drink plenty of water.

Can you feel your body loving you already?

Do this for at least two weeks and see how you feel. Most likely terrific and your boost in energy will leave you craving more of this wonderful new lifestyle change.
